Why Is Moisture Testing Necessary?
Moisture testing makes sure you meet a flooring manufacturer’s specifications and warranty requirements. Moisture testing shows you that the flooring you put down won’t be damaged by the moisture in the concrete.

When will I have my test report?
Test reports are generally available one week after the conclusion of the test.
What products require moisture testing before installation?
Non-breathable floor coverings generally require moisture testing before installation. Always read and understand the product’s guidelines for installation. Some flooring materials that should have moisture testing before installation include:
- VCT
- Vinyl
- Linoleum
- Rubber Flooring
- Vinyl tile
- Conductive and static dissipative tile
- Cork Flooring
- Hardwood flooring
- Carpet tiles
- Broadloom carpets with plastic backings

Why should you use a qualified independent testing agency?
- Various floor covering industry associations have recommended that general contractors are not qualified to test the suitability of a floor substrate for flooring applications.
- An independent testing agency doesn’t have a conflict of interest.
- Moisture testing is a sensitive operation. Getting a test wrong could cost you big time if your flooring fails. Hiring an independent testing agency guarantees correct test results.
How long does testing take?
Testing can be done in one to three days.
When should you test?
Any time a concrete slab will have new flooring installed, a moisture test should be performed. Moisture testing could be necessary to meet the requirements of a flooring manufacturer’s warranty.
