Moisture Testing & Concrete Slab Drying Process
Initial Pour
When concrete is first poured, it’s soft and watery. It’s too wet for flooring, and moisture testing won’t help.
Hardening Begins
Concrete pushes water to the surface as it dries. After 24 to 48 hours, it’s strong enough for light foot traffic but still too damp for flooring or testing.
Light Traffic Phase
After a week, you can walk on it, but it’s still too wet for flooring. Moisture testing shows high evaporation rates.
Capillary Formation
Tiny channels called capillaries form, affecting the slab’s quality. Moisture tests measure the water coming from these channels.
Full Drying
Concrete is usually fully dry after 28 days, but it might still be too moist for flooring. At this point, you can do a moisture test to check.
Ready for Moisture Testing
We test moisture no sooner than 28 days after pouring. Thicker slabs may need more time to dry. Moisture testing now is crucial for a successful flooring project.
